London 2012: One Year To Go on the ±«Óãtv

Wednesday 27 July marks One Year To Go until the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games, with a host of programmes on ±«Óãtv television and radio covering a day of celebrations across London, including a ceremony in Trafalgar Square organised by the Mayor of London.

Sophie Raworth, Jake Humphrey and Mishal Husain present a special programme on ±«Óãtv One (7-7.30pm) live from the One Year To Go Ceremony in Trafalgar Square and from the Aquatics Centre in the Olympic Park.

The Trafalgar Square event marks the final countdown to one of the biggest events in the world and kicks off a year of outstanding sporting and cultural activity in the UK.

IOC President, Jacques Rogge, will invite athletes from around the world to put together their national teams in readiness for next year's Games. Hosted by Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, guests include London 2012 Organising Committee Chair, Sebastian Coe, and a host of Britain's top Olympic athletes. The new design for the 2012 Games medals will be unveiled during the ceremony which will also include live music performances.

Mishal Husain will be live from the Aquatics Centre – one of the most iconic buildings on the Olympic site – with World 10m Diving Champion and Olympic hopeful Tom Daley performing the official launch dive in to the Olympic Pool.

The special programme will also be broadcast live on ±«Óãtv Radio 5 Live and globally on ±«Óãtv World News.

±«Óãtv Breakfast (±«Óãtv One, 6-9.15am) will have reports from the Olympic Park to mark this milestone day, with coverage on ±«Óãtv News Channel throughout the day.

±«Óãtv London will be asking "How ready is London?"; looking at transport, ticketing and policing issues, as well a special report on East London with local residents' views on the Games.

Radio 5 Live Breakfast (6-9am) will be live from the Olympic Park in Stratford talking to the athletes, organisers and volunteers who will be at the heart of the action in a year's time. The programme will also hear from the International Olympic Committee and the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, ahead of the official One Year To Go ceremony later in the day.

Shelagh Fogarty will present her 5 Live lunchtime programme (12noon-2pm) live from the Aquatics Centre in the Olympic Park, where she will be one of the first people to swim in the Olympic Pool. 5 Live Drive will pick up the Olympic baton from 4pm with a specially extended programme until 7.30pm live from Trafalgar Square for the official One Year To Go Ceremony.

Eleanor Oldroyd presents a special One Year To Go edition of 5 Live Sport: London Calling from 7.30pm with special guests and Olympic hopefuls.

On Tuesday 26 July, 10.30pm-1am, 5 Live's Tony Livesey will be live in Much Wenlock, Shropshire, hometown of Victorian doctor William Brookes, one of the founding fathers of the modern Olympic Games.

±«Óãtv World Service and ±«Óãtv World News television will be marking this milestone with a special range of content for audiences around the world.

This will include coverage from the Aquatics Centre,Ìýand the One Year To Go Ceremony in Trafalgar Square, as well as the launch of new programming: including Sporting Witness, looking back at key moments from the history of the Games, and Olympics Update, a weekly look at all the Olympics sporting news from around the world.  ±«Óãtv World News will also launch a new monthly weekend strand with news and features tracking the performances of competitors and nations in the final 12 months ahead of the games.

±«Óãtv Arabic TV and ±«Óãtv Persian TV as well as ±«Óãtv Chinese and ±«Óãtv Africa – which offers multilingual content to audiences across the continent – will all be broadcasting live from the Aquatics Centre while ±«Óãtv Brazil, the Spanish-language service, ±«Óãtv Mundo,Ìý±«Óãtv Russian and ±«Óãtv Ukrainian will bring their online audiences reports from the event.  The ±«Óãtv Turkish coverage of the event at the Aquatics Centre will be included in its daily TV programme, ¶Ù³Ü²Ô²â²¹Ìý³Ò³Ü²Ô»å±ð³¾¾±.
