±«Óãtv Children's swept the board at this year's British Academy Children's Awards held at the London Hilton on Sunday 28 November.

The ±«Óãtv won several Baftas for a variety of programmes across the key children's genres – Pre-school, Drama, Entertainment, Comedy, Factual, Animation, Learning-Primary and Interactive.

Brian Cant was also awarded the Children's Bafta Special Award for his outstanding contribution to children's television. He worked on many ±«Óãtv programmes including the iconic Play School, which he presented for 21 years and which defined children's television and helped lay the foundation for the success of ±«Óãtv Children's today.

Joe Godwin, Director, ±«Óãtv Children's, said: "It's been a fantastic year for CBeebies and C±«Óãtv. Both channels are number one with their audiences and have firmly established themselves as the best place for the best UK content, and it's just wonderful to have BAFTA recognise this."

Gary Barlow presented CBeebies with the coveted Channel of the Year award, in recognition for the great content it provides to children under the age of six. Overall, CBeebies won five categories including Interactive for Zingzillas; Pre-school Animation for Timmy Time; Pre-school Live Action for Something Special and Best Presenter for Justin Fletcher (Something Special).

Kay Benbow, Controller CBeebies, said: "I'm delighted that BAFTA have chosen CBeebies as their Channel of the Year – it's a credit to all the amazing talent we have both on screen and behind the cameras. We put children at the heart of everything we do and, while it's wonderful to be recognised by our peers in this way, what's most important to me is that we remain the favourite channel of the UK's youngest viewers."

C±«Óãtv also collected a plethora of awards at the event. Multi-award winning programme Shaun The Sheep won the Animation category; Tracy Beaker received a Bafta for Drama; Relic: Guardians Of The Museum won the Entertainment Award and Newsround Special – Living With Alchohol collected the Bafta for Best Factual.

Horrible Histories received three Bafta awards for best Comedy; Best Performer; and Best Writing Team.

Damian Kavanagh, Controller C±«Óãtv, said: "I'm very happy that C±«Óãtv won so many Bafta awards across all the different categories. These achievements reflect the range of content that we provide and we will continue to deliver an array of programmes that are loved by our young viewers."

The ±«Óãtv Learning team also celebrated an evening of success after winning the Learning-Primary Bafta award for its L8R Youngers programme. The drama, which consists of six half-hour mini episodes, is designed to stimulate discussion and explore attitudes, values and choices in year 5 and 6 Primary PSHE.
