±«Óãtv Young Sports Personality of the Year nominations open today

Do you know a budding Wayne Rooney, Tom Daley or Andy Murray? The 2010 ±«Óãtv Young Sports Personality of the Year launches today (Tuesday 12 October), giving you the chance to nominate the best in young sporting talent in the UK.

The award is made to the outstanding young sports person of the year, who is aged 16 or under on 1 January 2010, selected from nominations made to the ±«Óãtv and by sports governing bodies via the Youth Sport Trust.

To nominate a young sports star, you can download a nomination form and full terms & conditions on the website. (For list of previous winners see Notes to editors). The site also features an interview with Tom Daley, winner of the award last year and in 2007.

A panel of judges will select a shortlist of 10 from the nominations received. Then they will meet again to select the final three, who will be invited to attend the live ±«Óãtv Sports Personality of the Year 2010 show.
The winner will be announced live on air at the prestigious event.

Completed forms can be returned via email or post and must be received by Monday 15 November 2010.

The live ±«Óãtv Sports Personality of the Year show takes place this year at Birmingham's LG Arena on Sunday 19 December.

The show will be presented by Sue Barker, Gary Lineker and Jake Humphrey.

In addition to Young Sports Personality of the Year, there will also be awards for the following:

Coach of the Year
Overseas Sports Personality of the Year
Lifetime Achievement
Helen Rollason Award
Sports Unsung Hero

Notes to Editors

Young Sports Personality of the Year will be awarded to the outstanding young sportsperson aged 16 or under on 1 January 2010, selected from nominations made to the ±«Óãtv and by sports governing bodies via the Youth Sport Trust.

People are eligible to win the award if they are the right age and they are British, or if they meet all three of the following criteria:

They play a significant amount of their sport in the UK
Their core achievements that year were achieved in the UK, and not with a national team
They are residents in the UK

The closing date for nominations is Monday 15 November 2010.

Judging Panel

Chaired by ±«Óãtv Sport's John Inverdale.

Also on the panel are Jake Humphrey (±«Óãtv Sport), Helen Skelton (Blue Peter presenter), Ore Oduba (Newsround/Sportsround presenter), Amy Spencer and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey (former YSPOTY winners), two representatives from ±«Óãtv Sports Personality of the Year, and two representatives from the Youth Sport Trust.

The panel will meet to choose the top 10 contenders on Friday 26 November 2010 from the list of nominations collected by the Youth Sport Trust and the ±«Óãtv.

The panel will reconvene in early December to select the top three and the winner from the top 10 list. The top three and the winner will be selected by secret ballot.

The top three will be invited to the live event and the other seven contenders will be notified out of courtesy that they have not made the final shortlist.

The winner will be announced live on ±«Óãtv Sports Personality of the Year, on ±«Óãtv One on Sunday 19 December 2010.

The show will also be live on ±«Óãtv Radio 5 Live and the ±«Óãtv Sport website.
