To coincide with EastEnders' first online soap – EastEnders: E20 – the series has paired up with ±«Óãtv Radio 1 to offer remixers, DJs and music fans an unique opportunity to become part of EastEnders history by remixing the iconic theme tune for the E20 title sequence.

The competition opened to applications on the EastEnders website – www.bbc.co.uk/eastenders/e20 – on Wednesday and will be officially launched by Radio 1 on the Annie Mac show tonight (Friday 13 November) between 7.00 and 9.00pm.

The competition will also be championed by Friction on the ±«Óãtv Asian Network plus Ras Kwame and Ace & Vis on ±«Óãtv 1Xtra.

Annie Mac said: "I'm really excited about running the Eastenders: E20 competition on the show.

"It's great to give the listeners the chance to have some fun with the hugely iconic theme tune.

"We've also asked some of our favourite producers to have a go at doing a version and I'm really looking forward to hearing all the results!"

EastEnders: E20 is part of a drive by the ±«Óãtv to encourage and develop exciting new talent.

All the writers and cast – soon to be announced – are newcomers and this approach was also extended to the music production.

Diederick Santer, Executive Producer, EastEnders: E20, said: "I have no idea what to expect with this, and that excites me hugely.

"That's what's brilliant about the entire project – we're asking a whole new set of people to come at EastEnders from a fresh angle and to surprise us – and the audience – with what they do."

Deborah Sathe, Producer of EastEnders: E20, outlined what the re-mix will need to encapsulate: "I am looking for a fresh take on the classic EastEnders theme tune – one that will become the fanfare for a show which celebrates London life, and what it's like to be young in the capital. All in the space of 30 seconds!"

The winning entrant's remix will become the theme tune for EastEnders: E20 and the winner will also be invited to ±«Óãtv Elstree for a day to work with the show's music producer.

There they will learn tips and tricks of the trade whilst sampling the atmosphere behind the scenes of EastEnders.

The theme tune samples can be downloaded and remixes uploaded via the EastEnders website.
