±«Óătv Office to consult on tackling 'problem drinking'

  • Published

A ±«Óătv Office consultation is to be launched next week on moves to tackle "problem drinking" in England.

It will seek views on a series of options on the plans set out in the coalition agreement.

These include giving local councils and the police stronger powers to remove or restrict licences to pubs or bars.

Reasons for doing so could be if the pub or bar is a focus for trouble, tackling under-age drinking and restricting sales of cut-price alcohol.

Labour say that councils already have powers to remove or restrict licences to problem premises.
