Cow strays on to Surrey stretch of the M25

  • Published

A cow forced the closure of a section of the M25 on the Kent/Surrey border after escaping from its field.

The animal was reported to be on the verge and hard shoulder of the clockwise carriage, between junctions five and six near Godstone, at about 0900 BST.

Traffic was held-up for six minutes while the animal was returned to its field with the help of its owner.

"It's now safely back in its field and the motorway has reopened," the ±«Óătv travel service said.

Drivers were allowed to continue with their journeys, at about 0915 BST.

Repairs were carried out to a small section of damaged fence, and the rest of the field's boundaries are being inspected.

"The farmer took the other cows out of the field while the repairs were being done," a Highways Agency spokesman said.
