Gilfach is a Welsh hill farm where traditional farming methods and organic agriculture have stimulated wildlife. The farm boasts a variety of habitats from rivers to rocky uplands and the ancient anthill meadows.

The area is great for birds, bugs and Badgers so take a walk back in time at this stunning nature reserve.

Nature watching:

Birds - Dippers, Pied Flycatchers, Green Woodpeckers.

Early summer is a good time to see the birds. The Pied Flycatchers are most active in this period.

Insects - Beetles, Ants (ant hills in old meadows).

Walking - a well laid-out network of sign-posted and waymarked trails.

Access:Disabled access to the visitor centre. Disabled friendly toilets. Trail for disabled visitors.
Getting there:

Gilfach is located off the A470 about 3 km from Rhayader. Follow the brown signs for Gilfach Nature Reserve.

Opening times:

Gilfach nature reserve visitor centre: Open April-July 10am-5pm (Friday-Monday) plus July-September 10am-4.30pm daily.

To experience the tree top Badger hide visit Nannerth Farm, just outside the town of Rhayader. You need to book.

Gilfach Nature Reserve is run by the . It's free to enter and open throughout the year.
