A Mother's Love

We're working to support young parents in Myanmar on improved WASH and nutrition for their babies and young children

Young mothers in Myanmar are facing conflict, economic hardship, food insecurity and many other challenges.

With funding from LIFT (Livelihoods and Food Security Fund) we have begun a project called Mikhin Metta (A Mother’s Love), to increase access to information on effective nutrition and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices among women aged 18-35, particularly pregnant and lactating women and mothers of children of up to two years old.

This includes women in urban and rural areas, and migrant women working in Yangon's factories and in the garment sector in peri-urban areas.

We began our work with a formative study to understand current practices around water, sanitation and hygiene, and nutrition, which is informing our digital content production. We are also producing interactive toolkits for facilitators, working through local partners to support these conversations.

We launched our branded, dedicated Facebook page, Project AHaRa (Project Nutrition) on 28 May - International Nutrition Day - and in its first three months, the page drew more than 30,000 followers and 27,000 likes. Watch for more engaging campaigns around nutrition!
