Wi Di Pipul: Improving access to education, health and social services through radio

Wi Di Pipul (We The People) is a radio show that focuses on the country’s health, education and social care sector – reporting problems, as well as discussing and sharing solutions.

Broadcast in Krio by more than 20 local radio stations

Sierra Leone’s economy is recovering from the twin shocks of the Ebola crisis and a sharp decline in commodity prices. The crisis put enormous strain on the country’s health, social care and education systems as well as its energy and water supplies.

In the light of government plans to restore these essential services, ±«Óãtv Media Action created Wi Di Pipul (We The People) – a radio show that focuses on the country’s health, education and social care sector – reporting problems, as well as discussing and sharing solutions.

In one episode we investigated allegations that health professionals were charging for services that were meant to be for free. We also travelled to a remote village to see how a solar-powered fridge was improving the storage of vital vaccines.

The magazine programme – which features a drama and interactive audience discussion – is broadcast in Krio by more than 20 local radio stations across Sierra Leone. Films and infographics are uploaded on ±«Óãtv Media Action Sierra Leone’s ,  and  pages to engage online audiences.

Wi Di Pipul is part of  â€˜Strengthening Accountability, Building Inclusion’ – a consortium led by the charity Christian Aid which encourages people in Sierra Leone to help improve the lives of their communities.
