Testing content to address misinformation and disinformation on social media in Myanmar

A summary of our qualitative research piloting social media content on the issue of fake news in Myanmar, as part of our longstanding Tea Cup Diaries project addressing social cohesion in the country.

Publication date: October 2019

Summary

Our Tea Cup Diaries project in Myanmar aims to address issues around social cohesion and celebrate ethnic and religious diversity within the country. Increasingly, the long-running radio drama and associated Facebook content has been addressing issues related to fake news and media literacy. As part of a new phase of funding for the project, the production team created two new pilot videos – a Public Service Announcement (PSA) and a 5 minute mini-drama – tackling the issue of fake news. The pilots were tested with audiences to learn how to best engage them on the topic.
