Liverpool Sound City

Four days of music and debate will take place at venues across Liverpool this May.

Liverpool will host four days of music and debate this May for the inaugural Liverpool Sound City.

Dave Pichilingi, who has taken Liverpool groups to the South By Southwest Festival in the U.S. is organising Sound City from 27 to 30 May, 2007.

“It’s got a big conference element to it so we’re bringing in delegates from all over the world, people from the labels and the music industry in America, Europe and event the Far East.

“For four days we’re going to be debating and discussing the Hard Day’s Night Hotel. And there’s a children’s element to it with a number of things with local schools.

“For the last two years I’ve been going to festivals all over the world, South by Southwest, In The City and so on.

In 2007 Dave Pichilingi organised a showcase of Liverpool bands at South by Southwest. Groups that appeared included The Wombats, 28 Costumes, Candie Payne and Delta Fiasco.

Sound City promises to use a variety of different venues across Liverpool including cellars, car parks, churches, boats and warehouses.

“In the evening we’re taking over 20 different venues and putting on parties and performances,” says Dave Pichilingi.

“Instead of just putting bands on we’re working with all the record labels for example EMI, Island Records, Domino and Deltasonic.

“The focus will be very much on the labels themselves.”
