'Introducing Cognitive Design' A film by Leena Haque, with Complete Control

Centred firmly amongst current research work-streams led by ±«Óătv R&D and UX&D teams, Cognitive Design is an initiative considering a new approach to creativity and design developed around emerging research from the fields of cognitive psychology and neuroscience.

Against the background of emergent large-scale organisational creative methodologies – all loosely based on adopting team behaviours informed by the Action Research cycle of plan/act/reflect – these approaches to creative problem solving (often called User Centred Design, Lean or Agile Development) offer methods to achieving solutions for process, service and product development.

However, these approaches have been in circulation for some time now and are becoming more iterative of existing practice rather than developing anew. In short, Design has reached 'Peak Method' and there is an emerging creative crisis for Design methodology.

As nothing changes unless it is challenged, the work encapsulated under Cognitive Design explores an opportunity to utilise expanding research from within neurosciences and cognitive psychology, to uncover potentially new approaches to creative methodologies, which would complement or evolve existing approaches to content design.

This short animation provides an introduction to the themes behind Cognitive Design and if you would like to know more about this work, please contact Sean Gilroy UX Principal, Cognitive Design.
