±«Óãtv

Accessibility

The ±«Óãtv has a long tradition of making information available and accessible. It seeks to be open and accountable and already provides the public with a great deal of information about its activities. ±«Óãtv Information operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, handling telephone and written comments and queries, and the ±«Óãtv's website  provides an extensive online information resource.

±«Óãtv accessibility policy

In keeping with its public service remit, and its obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act, the ±«Óãtv will ensure that its media is accessible to people who have visual, hearing, motor or cognitive impairments.

Accessibility is a partnership between site producers like the ±«Óãtv and the creators of the operating system, browser, and specialist assistive technologies which many disabled users employ to allow them, for example, to view websites in easier-to-read colours, with larger fonts, or as spoken text.

As such technologies have become more available and sophisticated, the ±«Óãtv will:

  • Ensure that its media work well with these assistive technologies to ensure an accessible experience for disabled users.
  • Provide the 'Accessibility Help' site which will guide users in customising their computers (either by explaining the accessibility features of their operating systems or browser, or by introducing them to the range of assistive technologies which are available) to provide them with the most accessible web experience, not just for  but all websites.

The ±«Óãtv will also work with those in the wider accessibility community to support the future development of these technologies and the standards that allow all websites to be created to work best for them.

The ±«Óãtv's Welsh Language Scheme

The ±«Óãtv is committed to communicating bilingually with the public in Wales. The ±«Óãtv's Welsh Language Scheme incorporates many of the current working practices of the ±«Óãtv and formalises language policies, as required by the Welsh Language Board.

The ±«Óãtv recognises the principle of equality between English and Welsh. Regard for both languages has been integral to the administration of the ±«Óãtv in Wales for many years.
