Asia Argento

xXx

Interviewed by Matt Arnoldi

Would you consider "xXx" your breakthrough role?

Yes, it is. I loved "The Fast and the Furious", and thought it would be a real challenge to do "xXx". It appealed to me that my character, Yelena, is both cerebral and physical. This movie has led to me receiving quite a few kick-ass chick roles. I've said no to them so far, because I don't want to jump from playing the dark lady in Italy to just playing kick-ass chicks in America! However, it's nicer to play the kick-ass chick right now, so maybe I don't feel so bad about it.

You're also a director. Did you learn anything from working with Rob Cohen?

For me it was like going to film school, witnessing 14 cameras all shooting the same scene. I feel lucky as an actress to be able to spy on many brilliant directors. I make clear I'm out to steal their ideas but Rob said to me, "You don't have to steal mine, I'm happy to share them with you."

How was working with Vin Diesel and Marton Csokas?

Vin's a generous actor, very intuitive, very smart. Marton is a stage actor, very deep, he has a completely different approach to my own, which is much more carefree.

Were there any risky moments shooting the extreme sports scenes in the film?

There were many. But it felt secure because these people knew what they were doing. Driving the GTi so fast with Vin was very exciting, I have to say. I'm not normally into risking my life. My motto is live fast, die old!

Has Rob Cohen given any hints about the sequel?

I signed for "xXx" agreeing to a sequel, but it's up to them to say if they want me. I hope so!
