Glazunov’s brilliant orchestration of some of Chopin’s piano works makes for a fine start to this programme which also includes one of the most popular Romantic symphonies, Tchaikovsky’s Fifth. Martyn Brabbins links these two labours of love with Mussorgsky’s 'Songs and Dances of Death', but don’t be misled by the title: you’ll never hear anything more blackly comic – or a more compelling showcase for a great voice.
