In’Traces’, Colin Matthews works with quotes – “traces” – of works by famous composers: Mahler’s unfinished Tenth Symphony, Sibelius’s “Lost” Eighth Symphony, the Schoenberg orchestration of Beethoven’s song Adelaide, and a lute composition by Robert Johnson. He then interweaves this material with his own music, which has, as a result, a very powerful, almost hypnotic character. Alina Ibragimova joins the Orchestra for Bartók’s folk-inflected Violin Concerto No. 2.
