Concert Information
Conductor Ludovic Morlot joins the orchestra for a live ±«Óătv Radio 3 broadcast and a double serving of Beethoven, with Mozart in between.
Todayâs Beethoven pieces share a connection to the JosephstĂ€dter Theater in Vienna and its former director, Karl Friedrich Hensler.
The Consecration of the House: Overture, was written late in the composerâs career and commissioned in honour of the reopening of the theatre in 1822, whilst Gratulations Minuet was composed as a surprise for Hensler and premiered the evening before his âname-dayâ.
Mozartâs Piano Concerto No. 9 was written when the composer was only 21 years old and is today delivered by young German pianist Elisabeth BrauĂ. Called "one of the greatest wonders of the worldâ by Austrian pianist Alfred Brendel, the work is highly regarded by critics.
