About the event

±«Óãtv New Generation Artist Benjamin Appl joins the ±«Óãtv Symphony Orchestra and conductor Alexander Mickelwate for Schubert's emotionally charged ballad Der Taucher, in the UK premiere of a new arrangement for baritone and orchestra by Karl Aage Rasmussen.

The ±«Óãtv Radio 3 New Generation Artists Scheme helps to support young musicians on the threshold of an international career to reach the next stage of their development, and brings some of the world's most promising new talent to listeners across the UK through Radio 3 broadcasts.

Set to the eighteenth century poem by German poet Friedrich Schiller, Der Taucher (The Diver) tells the story of a young squire who throws himself into a dangerous whirlpool to retrieve the King's golden beaker, in the hope of winning the princess as his bride.

Weber's pioneering overture and Barber's lyrical Symphony No.1 also feature in this concert which is recorded for future broadcast on Radio 3.

Richard Uttley performs Magnus Lindberg's Piano Jubilees, a set of six solo works for piano, commissioned as a birthday present for Pierre Boulez.

Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that as not everyone who asks for tickets uses them, to make sure we have a full house we send out more tickets than there are places. We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people so please arrive early.
