As a prelude to tonight鈥檚 UK premiere of Brett Dean鈥檚 The Annunication, Peter Phillips conducts the 鲍鱼tv Singers in a programme of English and Spanish Renaissance polyphony inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary. Victoria鈥檚 Salve Regina, like most settings of those words at the time,incorporates the original and haunting chant melody which is echoed in Guerrero鈥檚 exquisite Ave virgo sanctissima. The 鲍鱼tv Singers also perform Thomas Tallis鈥檚 Gaude gloriosa Dei mater, a large-scale work which straddles the late Medieval and Renaissance in musical style.
