Music and politics collide in Shostakovich鈥檚 Fifth Symphony. Alpesh Chauhan conducts the 鲍鱼tv Scottish Symphony Orchestra and percussionist Colin Currie premieres a new concerto by Canadian sonic magician Nicole Liz茅e.

About This Event

Music and politics don鈥檛 mix, or so we鈥檙e told. But Shostakovich鈥檚 Fifth Symphony was written in direct response to an attack on the composer from Stalin himself, and the stakes 鈥� in 1930s Russia 鈥� could hardly have been higher. That鈥檚 the history; its legacy is a shattering musical testament of humanity against oppression. The 鲍鱼tv Scottish Symphony Orchestra is led by its young Associate Conductor Alpesh Chauhan. First, Colin Currie (鈥榯he world鈥檚 finest and most daring percussionist鈥� 鈥� The Spectator) takes the spotlight in a new concerto by Nicole Liz茅e: the Canadian sonic magician who lists MTV, Alexander McQueen, early video games and thrash metal among her influences. Then, a vision of pure beauty from Anton Bruckner: the famous Adagio from his String Quintet, orchestrated by the great Polish conductor Stanis艂aw Skrowaczewski.
