Edward Gardner, one of the most talented British conductors of his generation, conducts the ±«Óătv Symphony Orchestra on its first visit to Newbury Spring Festival.

Opening with Wagner’s thrilling Overture Tannhäuser, outstanding young Ukrainian violinist Valeriy Sokolov later joins for Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, and the concert concludes with Elgar's tumultuous Symphony No 1 which has maintained a place in the standard orchestral repertoire ever since its sensational premiere in 1908, reported as “The Musical Event Of The Year”.
