Yesterday there were replies here. So where did they go? Rubbished?
Oh horror upon horror, we now have a cupcake smiley thingy - are we being further dumbed down?
I can hear it all now, good old host Andrew at the ritual Passover of the Host occasion muttering something along the lines of "They are are nutters and cup cakes there."
So now we know what Katy did.
Welcome aboard the board etc, any way Katy - but if you feel the urge to find more smileys to substitute for language skills then be a dear and try to desist, mm?

Hi Katy
Is there any way I could nick one or two of these smileys and import them onto the TV messageboard? I was looking for a 'glass of stout' smiley the other day and couldn't figure out how to do it.
And, by way of a note to Priscilla (message 2), of course these shouldn't be regarded as a substitute for language skills - but then again, how about the Ancient Egyptians and their pictograms? You could say their entire written language consisted of smileys?? -

Yes, michie, possibly so - sad really when you think of it ...and it rather dulls the theory the they came from outer space; Imagine doing the necessary maths for that in smiley ideograms and such.
However, I can quite see the PoV Board posters having fun with smileys but not this place. Many of us feel ignorant enough among so many scholars without underlining it with smiley thingys to the little we may contribute in our areas of knowledge.
Some of us actually read all the posts to learn something roo - or at least think about them.
h2g3 smileys are inappropriate here. I looked them up and some are funny - just not for this place. Our bar humour is banal enought - and may the gods be praised we do not have those huggy smileys next to 'nighty nights' - eek!
The Garden Board don't have them either bu they are ever so serious there..... and of course that is why Friday night on TV is given over to Gardening. A bit like the silent pall that fell over the house when my uncle used to check his pools - before and after that was. Soemone here obviously thought we dull historian types ought join the scene and liven up. Sad - like the movies when the staff in the front row watching High School shows and get twitchy hip. Like I said , sad.

I wonder if Katy really did mean to post all these smileys on the history messageboard? It's a bit like driving an ice-cream van onto a Cambridge quad, with 'O Sole Mio' blaring out.

Having a smile here.
Refugees to the Archers board from various other part of ±«Óãtvland were very put out to discover it is a smiley free zone.
It does seem to be a love/hate relationship. I am with the 'hate smilies' camp myself. But I suppose having them available is the best option. -

I agree, Silver Jenny. Smiley fascism is not to be tolerated. I loathe the damn things myself (especially the* immensely* irritating drumroll), but will defend to the death (sort of) others' right to use them. -

perhaps I am too stupid for the computer and related "things"...? But before I could find the "smileys" when typing my message in a separate box, but now wherever I look I don't find again the table from the old days?
And when I want to "cool my wrath" (ventilate my anger) in a message I have to resort to a mere "Grrr"

I've only just noticed that there's a new post on this thread.
Well, I only use smile, laugh and doh! - I can just about remember them! Yes, a Grrr would also be good! But for judicious use only, of course.
I thought the drum roll smiley was the most annoying thing known to man, but I've since come across the simpost emoticom. Someone over on the Family Trees did an amazing post with about 18 of these. I sat and watched it in morbid, horrified fascination for ages. I think it actually hypnotised me.
I still rather like the little tit, but no one has (as far as I know) ever used it, not even Catigern who seems to be fond of such things .

just saw your message. Yes these two threads are so "eternal" at the head of the thread's list that you see them anymore at least or don't look to them anymore....

Well said. I think you missed a career as novelist....
And I found the list of smileys back at least in the FAQs....
And it can be that it was before on this place that I found this smileys too...getting older... memory...and I used only the smileys that I knew from the top of my head for a long time....so needed for a long time not the
smiley...only to mask with a lot of words that I plainly forgot where to look....

h2g2 has been removed and so have our smileys asset stripping though a few remain its unknown what will work and what wont
