Complaint

A listener complained that, during an interview about Boris Johnson’s evidence to the Covid Inquiry, Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg MP spoke about a “significant decline” in maths scores in the UK’s latest Programme for International Assessment (PISA) results which he blamed on the pandemic. In fact the drop in PISA results in the UK was only partly attributed to the pandemic by the organisation responsible for PISA. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the ±«Óătv’s editorial standards of accuracy.

Outcome

As Sir Jacob did not say or imply that the decline in maths scores was solely due to the pandemic, his remarks were not inaccurate in this respect.
