Complaint
A viewer objected to the programme’s use of the phrase “Israeli airstrike” on the basis that it gave the misleading impression that all Israelis supported the actions of the Israeli government in Gaza. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the ±«Óătv’s editorial standards of accuracy.
Outcome
It being a common convention in news reporting for journalists to describe a country’s government by the country’s name, the ECU saw no basis for supposing the use of the phrase in question would have led viewers to conclude that citizens of Israel were unanimous in support of their government’s actions.
