Complaint

A listener complained that this programme, which included an interview with the then-leader of the DUP had given him “a significant platform†without representing an appropriate range of views across the political spectrum.  The ECU considered the complaints in the light of the ±«Óãtv’s editorial standards of impartiality.

Outcome

The topic of the interview was the DUP leader’s views about the future of unionism in the context of a changing Northern Ireland, including whether the main unionist parties might coalesce around shared objectives. It explored what he had said about this subject and intra-unionist issues more generally ahead of a joint event at Queen’s University, Belfast. It was opinions within unionism which were principally relevant in this item, and impartiality did not require the equivalent involvement of contributors from elsewhere on the political spectrum.
