Complaint

A viewer complained Fiona Bruce showed bias against the SNP panellist, the MP Drew Hendry.  The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the ±«Óãtv’s editorial standards of impartiality.

Outcome

Across the hour-long programme the panellists considered four questions from the audience.  In the ECU’s view, Mr Hendry was given adequate time to set out his views on each question.  As the programme was nearing its end, with Mr Hendry’s comments some way from the subject matter and under the pressure of time, Ms Bruce felt it necessary to cut him short.  However, it was clear from the ensuing exchange that Mr Hendry accepted he’d been given the chance to answer the original question.  The ECU considered Ms Bruce was simply trying to bring the programme back to concerns raised by the audience, and had been no more robust in her treatment of Mr Hendry than her treatment of the other politicians on the panel.
