Summary of complaint
We have received complaints from people who were unhappy with the interview with Dr Aseem Malhotra.
Our response
Dr Aleem Malhotra is a consultant cardiologist and was booked to discuss the new guidance that the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) had issued on statins. During the interview, and unprompted, he brought up excess deaths among people with heart conditions and made claims about mRNA vaccines. We agree that we should have been better prepared to challenge what Dr Malhotra said, given his past comments about the vaccination programme, and we are sorry that this did not happen.

The News Channel asked Professor Peter Openshaw from Imperial College London, who is a member of the UK Vaccine Network, to clarify what Dr Malhotra had said for the benefit of viewers later on that morning. Â
