I would like to thank all of Radio 4’s listeners who have generously donated to support Theirworld’s work to ensure that in crises and emergencies, young people have the opportunity to rebuild their lives and communities through quality education. Education provides a sense of normalcy and hope during chaos and the essential psychosocial support to allow children to emerge from a crisis ready to create a brighter future”.
— Justin van Fleet, President of Theirworld

Theirworld is a global children’s charity committed to ending the global education crisis. We believe that every child deserves an education, no matter who they are or where they live. This includes the 37 million children and adolescents displaced by conflict and other crises who are desperate to learn.

In January this year, with the help of the distinguished actor David Tennant, we introduced Radio 4 listeners to Omer, a 15-year-old boy from Syria who was living in a refugee camp in Greece after fleeing the war with his family. Arriving in Greece unable to speak the native language, he faced a bleak future. But thanks to Theirworld, which arranges for specialist teachers to go into camps and teach languages, numeracy and cognitive skills, Omer is catching up on years of lost education, learning science, maths, Greek and English.

We are incredibly grateful to all the amazing ±«Óătv Radio 4 listeners who donated a fantastic £39,917 including matched giving to help us provide education to refugee and disadvantaged children around the world.

So many crises affect the world today, and they are only increasing in number. Conflict, natural disasters and other emergencies all force people to flee their homes, further fuelling the education crisis.

From Syrian and Ukrainian refugees to children affected by the recent earthquakes in Turkey, the money Radio 4 listeners have raised will enable us to support the learning of more children displaced by conflict or disaster, giving them a safe place to learn and ensuring they can develop the skills they need for the future.

Thank you for helping give hope to children in crisis.
