Prostate Cancer Research Centre

Radio 4 Appeal 16 December 2018

Picture: Martin Dallison partnered up with Stephen Fry and raised over £50,000 towards a potential game-changing immunotherapy treatment.

Through this appeal we are spreading the word about getting tested and making sure people who are tested positive, even in the late stages, have a greater chance of a benign outcome because of the work of the Prostate Cancer Research Centre.

Stephen Fry

We had a fantastic response to our Stephen and Martin Appeal raising funds for Prostate Cancer Research Centre’s Immunotherapy project. We were fortunate to receive £56,000 from the Appeal through generous listeners donating directly, our current supporter base and new donors that we reached out to through spreading the word about the Appeal.

We are hugely grateful to both Stephen Fry and Martin Dallinson who through the appeal shared their stories about prostate cancer. Stephen was one of the lucky ones who was able to have surgery.  Martin was not so lucky and didn’t find out about his prostate cancer until it was too late. Sadly Martin passed away in November before the Appeal was broadcast.

Every year 45,000 men in the UK receive a diagnosis of prostate cancer. One in three is terminal.

Prostate Cancer Research Centre (PCRC) is dedicated to funding pioneering research into advanced prostate cancer.

All the money donated to the appeal has gone directly to the work of Dr Christine Galustian who has found out how to use a protein that stimulates the immune system to attack prostate cancer cells, leaving normal cells alive. Christine and her team have successfully reduced tumour growth by 60% in the lab, and all money donated to the appeal will go towards moving the project towards clinical trials in men by 2020.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated. Your support means that we can move closer to a better future for men and their families.
