Over The Wall’s appeal in December 2017, received an incredibly generous response from ±«Óãtv Radio 4’s listeners with £8,668 raised from 156 donors.
As a charity that provides children with serious health challenges with the opportunity to experience free, life changing, residential camps, we were very grateful to be able to use these funds to ensure that every camp we run is -not only fun- but most importantly, safe.
Our therapeutic recreation camps help to develop the confidence, self-esteem, and relationships of our campers, offering memorable, fun and empowering experiences, in a physically safe and medically sound environment.
The funds raised through our ±«Óãtv Radio 4 appeal were used to provide critical medical supplies and resources in the form of 162 medical kits for the children attending our camps.
Our Appeal
Our ±«Óãtv Radio 4 appeal, presented by Over The Wall’s patron, Sir Kenneth Branagh, told the story of Alex (4th from the left on the back row) who suffers from an extremely rare condition called Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD). This life-threatening illness has led Alex on a journey that has meant he missed out on so many of childhood’s precious moments such as playing outside, going on school trips and attending friends’ parties.
Having attended Over The Wall’s camps, Alex was able to forget his illness, participating in fun and challenging activities, experiencing what he described as ‘the best week of his life’. Alex has been attending the camps for 3 years and has gone on to win gold in the walk race at the 2017 British Transplant Games.
