It’s done more than people realise. It’s taught me how to understand other people. It’s helped me with my everyday life – with how I listen to other people, how I can help other people".

Thank you everyone who tuned in to hear Alison Balsom and The National Youth Orchestra.

We champion orchestral music as a powerful agent for teenage development, providing teenagers from all backgrounds with opportunities and the support they need to develop their musical and personal skills. Your incredible generosity, backed by a special group of match-funders, raised £41,471. Your donations enabled us to provide opportunities straight away - helping 500 teenagers attend NYO Inspire orchestra days during the Easter holidays, and the success of the appeal will help deliver more days in October.

Motivated teenage musicians gathered in five schools in London, Sandwell, Gloucester, Sheffield and Tyneside, to play and share music in a welcoming peer community. They challenged themselves in rehearsals and creative workshops, learned new techniques from expert tutors, and played exciting music. They played their part in an epic, high quality orchestra, including a performance to family, friends and peers. For many, this was all a brand new, thrilling experience, that built their knowledge, confidence and determination to advance in their music.

Alison told you about Cai’s need for new challenges. Cai came to our orchestra day in London, taking the role of co-leader for a performance of Danzon No. 2 by Marquez. She helped new attendees settle in, shared her skills and approaches – continuing to learn and challenge herself.

Teenagers who join Inspire Orchestra days are thrilled at what they achieve together in one day. For many, new friendships are forged, determination to improve is sparked, and passion to play orchestral music is ignited.

This is only possible with your support. Together, we can open up music and musical opportunities for teenagers across the UK, whatever their background or where they live. Thank you.
