Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation

Radio 4 Appeal 11 Oct 2020

Thousands of young people from all walks of life were able to access the project, culminating in a celebratory performance broadcast featuring over two hundred school performances.

Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation (CSSF) is delighted and very grateful to have raised £14,413 through the ±«Óãtv Radio 4 Appeal. Despite the immense upheaval of 2020, and with theatres across the UK closed, CSSF was able to run a successful 2020 Festival.

One school who took part was High Close School, a special educational needs school in Wokingham. Emma Starling, the teacher leading the project, explained the impact of the Festival:

“Our students are super vulnerable, they’re really anxious. They have all kinds of communication and mental health needs, and they find the CSSF process just incredible. We had a student who, prior to doing the Festival was in a huge amount of trouble. He was being arrested, a lot of the time he was being held in secure units, he was being sectioned - the festival was a real turning point for him. He committed to rehearsals. He relished the opportunity of being part of something bigger and succeeding and it meant so much to his family to see him on the day performing.”

Thanks to the generous support of all ±«Óãtv Radio 4 donors, we can give even more vulnerable and disadvantaged children an exciting, positive, new opportunity. Thanks to you we can transform the lives of even more young people through the unique power of Shakespeare. On behalf of all the young people involved, thank you.
