It was the first ship built specifically for scientific research into Antarctica. The special design features of the ship allowed it to not only survive in the Antarctic waters, but also carry out research. Some of this research is still used and relevant today as the world becomes more and more aware of environmental issues.
Now Discovery stands on the city’s waterfront since 1986 when it returned back to Dundee. It appeals to all ages offering not only a tour of the ship but the incredible stories through state of the art audio visual and computer based multimedia, alongside displays of actual artefacts that belonged to Scott and the brave crew.
Explore the latest addition to the museum - Discovery Dome. Be transported to 1901 by an immersive 360-view audiovisual experience over Dundee city and River Tay. Take the breath-taking view from a formerly inaccessible upper cupola area and re-discover RRS Discovery from a different, previously unseen perspective.
