Sri Lanka: the government view

The Sri Lankan high commissioner in London, Nichal Jayasinghe, has told me there's no need for government forces to heed calls for a ceasefire because they aren't firing anyway. But the Red Cross says the situation in the no-fire zone where tens of thousands of civilians are still trapped between the army and Tamil Tiger rebels is "nothing short of catastrophic".
