Hastings in Malawi

Ros Atkins Ros Atkins | 10:48 UK time, Thursday, 4 January 2007

WHYS_listener_Hastings.jpgI live in Mulanje, 80 kilometres east of Malawi's commercial capital of Blantyre. I am an out going person and very interested in social issues. I very much like following current affairs. I am an environmental journalists currently working with the Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust (MMCT). So I am employed!

Three years ago the ±«Óãtv started broadcasting on FM in Malawi. This gave us (listeners) an opportunity to have easy access to the ±«Óãtv World service away from the situation that we were in to trace the ±«Óãtv on Short Wave. Because of the excitement of being close to the ±«Óãtv 24 hours, I came to know about the WHYS and got interested with different views and thoughts from different listeners from all over the world. To date, I am an ardent follower of the programme

I mostly like WHYS because it gives us an opportunity to get views on a particular subject and its choice of participants is superb. There are some things I don't like. Sometimes it happens that you are on the phone and you are kept holding for a very long time, only to be told -'sorry we could not talk to you - bye!' It can be frustrating indeed.

I am interested in current social issues. Issues like how people from different parts of the world think and view a particular matter. And I very much believe that different people will definitely have different thoughts and beliefs on a particular subject. And WHYS gives a better platform for such thoughts.
