An for Flintshire gives us lots to think about.

Here are the main stats and predications:-

Unemployment in the county could jump from 2.8 per cent to 6.7 per cent due to the Credit Crunch.

More than 1,200 jobs have been lost since January 2006, and there's a concern the number could "explode because of the economic downturn".

This is because the county is a big manufacturer - which accounts for 34 per cent of all jobs in the county compared to 14 per cent elsewhere in the UK - and manufacturing is an area of business affected badly by the recession.

Four per cent of Flintshire companies are responsible for 47 per cent of all jobs, and the county's rate of business start-ups is 25 per cent less than the UK level.

So, whilst we're good a bringing in the big businesses, we're not as good at helping new and small companies to find their feet.

Nearly 40 per cent of companies believe there is a gap between the skills needed for business and those of applicants.

That must relate to practical skills and not academic results - as we're forever praising ever improving exam results year in and out.
