Local artist Paul Jones's new exhibition at celebrates the work of the cleaner at the town's maisonettes [ courtesy of flickr.com]. The display is made up of photos to show the day in the life of the guy whose job it is to clean up after everyone else. Paul seems to have found art in the mundane - but could you find the same appreciation?
Perhaps you'd have to live at the flats to truly appreciate Paul's work. There are photos of bin bags, the rubbish chute and the huge communal bin and ever present in Paul's project is the imposing grey brick of the flats and cement and flagstone floors.
Says Paul: "Cleaning is a dirty job and cleaning up other people mess is even dirtier. The maintenance worker at Flint’s maisonettes works extremely hard to keep up with making the environment a safe, comfortable, and hygienic place to live. The exhibition is a celebration of the dedication and pride he takes in his labour.
"The maisonettes have always been stained with a bad reputation, but as you can see from this work, there are people who are really concerned with the environment and are taking positive action to improve their living conditions; the maintenance worker is an important part of this process."
