Around the Caribbean in 46 hours
St Kitts - Post match press conferences are not always the most exciting of affairs, but sometimes something happens to lift one out of the ordinary.
During the Scotland captain Craig Wright's conference after the Australia match here an Australian journalist wanted to ask Wright about the fitness of fast bowler John Blain. Unfortunately what he actually said was "Do you know whether will be fit for the next match ?".
To Craig Wright's credit he resisted the temptation to say "I'm not sure how the American escapologist is getting on"... but the moment did lead to much laughter amongst the other media in the room.
One of our TMS commentators could have done with the assistance of David Blaine to help him escape from the nightmare of his journey from Jamaica to St Kitts.
You may have noticed that our South African reporter Neil Manthorp was missing from our commentary team for the Australia v Scotland match - and to be honest I had no idea where he was.
It turned out that after attending the opening ceremony in Jamaica it took him 46 hours to get to St Kitts, a journey which should take an hour and a half. He went via nine different islands including Guadeloupe, St Martin, Antigua, Grenada, Barbados, Grenada, Puerto Rico and several others he can't really remember.
When he got to Barbados, Neil was promised a hotel room for the night, but went he got there he was told there wasn't one available and had to sleep in the hotel lobby. He also slept in an airport departure lounge whilst waiting for another flight. He was in amazingly good spirits considering his travails.
With Neil's absence I was a bit short when it came to our commentary team for the Scotland match - so it was fortunate I ran into one of the great local characters in these parts, , was bowling in the nets to the injured Australian Andrew Symonds when I spotted him.
His nickname was earned by his reputation for knocking out the teeth of batsman and he famously terrorised English batsman in several tour matches.
As well as playing for teams in the Caribbean, John also played in England and he told me he was a big fan of TMS and always fancied his chances of being a commentator. So next day there he was making his debut on TMS - and he was very entertaining especially telling us how he preferred hurting batsman rather than getting them out.
And going back to slips of the tongue I learnt that John once caused Jonathan Agnew to have a rather embarrassing moment on air. Aggers was describing how John had caused havoc amongst the English batsman during a tour match. But instead of saying John 'the Dentist' had been the star performer what Aggers actually said was: "England were destroyed today by the bowling of John 'The Baptist' !"
