Conservatives against Obama's war?

I can't do it. Those days when you are sort of on holiday but keeping an eye on business. Work and play suffers and family tempers fray.

But President Obama continues his half-holiday at Camp David and his reading material will include a version of . But who is going to dislike it more - the left or the right?

At least there is some narrative tension. Not so much a whodunit but a "how to pay for it".

The general's thrust is clear: the overwhelming need is to win Afghan hearts and minds.

His solutions are there too: a continued military presence in areas that have been taken so the Taliban do not return; a "civilian surge"; a more softly-softly approach; and a move to buy off Taliban fighters. He believes most of them are going to war for money, not an ideology.

But he does not say how much money he wants or how many troops. One adviser who has worked with him thinks

The president may back the strategy, but has to be careful about the commitment.

It is not just who do not want to write a blank check, and it is not just the opinion polls showing declining support for the war.

Now See - bipartisanship isn't dead.
