As I've said in a previous blog, one thing that makes Springwatch special is how much you, the audience, join in and get involved - with Springwatch and with UK wildlife as a whole - whether its just enjoying it or getting stuck in and doing something to help wildlife where you live. There are loads of ways that you can do this - allow me to find something that will suit you.

So ...... something for the weekend, sir (or madam)?

There's no better weekend than this weekend to do something with nature, or for nature. Get out there, get involved and keep the Springwatch spirit going until we see you again on Monday. Here's a range of suggestions:

Don't fancy going further than your own garden? Our garden wildlife page has loads of ideas and links to information on what you can do to help the wildlife that lives (or wants to live) right on your doorstep. Go on - start your very own nature reserve in your back yard! I have and I'm addicted to it. I have a relatively small garden in the middle of Bristol and I even have a badger that comes and visits most nights (I hope he isn't missing me ....). There are suggestions of quick and easy things - and more involved things - you can do, depending how brave and energetic you're feeling.

As Bill and Kate have mentioned, there are a number of Springwatch and Breathing Places Festivals happening around the country this weekend (only!). So if you live in or near Brighton, Bristol, Derby, Gateshead, Glasgow, Newcastle or Southampton there's a great day out for you and your family to be had right on your doorstep. These festivals have been hugely popular and well received in the past, so if you haven't been to one before, why not go along this weekend and try one out?

If you want to get really involved and make a real difference to the wildlife in your area this weekend, why not join one of 50 Springwatch Action Teams (S.W.A.Ts) that will be springing into action all over the country, turning run down spaces into breathing places - great for wildlife and for people. The weather is looking half decent for most of the country at some point this weekend, so why not take the opportunity to do your own Springwatching, whether you are just outside watching the birds and the bees, or getting down and dirty and making a difference in your local patch.
