The conditions depicted ARE representative of what is on offer during a Scottish winter and maybe the writers of these articles should get up there and get a taste of the fantastic snowy views coupled with the exhilarating winter sport available in the Scottish Highlands. Or maybe they'd rather stay at their desks and write more negative stories that worsen further the British peoples' perception of winter sports in Scotland!

    I go ice climbing in Scotland every year. Yes, it's been lean some years, but that's OK: we just go to the higher crags. The only year that I couldn't climb was back in 1998.

    And I can confirm that the expression on the climber's face who's just topped out on an ice climb sums up exactly what it's all about. It's a blast.

    So everyone is now determined to enjoy the one life that they do get whilst they still have it. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. Live well today, for tomorrow we may die. And damn the consequences. It's selfish, but entirely understandable.

    And believe me, having spent over six months of my life in Faslane and seen the delights of Helensburgh and Dumbarton it would take wild stallions chained to my scr*t*m to get me back to Scotland!

    How many English actually go there for their annual holiday, as compared to other destinations anyhow? The figures must be out there somewhere.

    The USA was the worst for obesity in the developed nations study. No shock there then.
