The Beach

What is the Beach?

It’s a place to go when the stresses of your real life need relieving. Sometimes it is fairly quiet and you might feel like you’re the only one around, but you can leave your ‘footprints’ for others to find later on. Othertimes it is the home for a real party, with constant gossip, leg-pulling, rumour, innuendo, chit-chat and weirdness.

If this were a forum (and it sort of is because we post responses to each other, not just to Eddie, hence our term for ourselves 'Froggers', a combination of forum and blogger) then the beach would be the off-topic area.
It's a tropical location, no matter the time of year it's always warm and pleasant there.

Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular, the evenings balmy. It has a number of different locations; the Nick Clarke waterfront bar; the smokers corner; Fido's Run for the dog-walkers; the Naughty Step and many others.
How do you find your way around? There is no direct answer to the question.

The beach is a moveable feast, literally. It will be renewed by our Lord and master Mr. Edward de Mair each Friday morning. This is because we have found in the past that when the number of posts exceeds about 600 the entire thing becomes unwieldy and unstable. A case of the beach turning to quicksand.

Froggers often leave bottles / glasses / trays of their favourite tipple on the bar for others to sample, not to mention big / small eats.

There is a herd of camels who frequent the sands, which froggers are very fond of. There are sun-loungers, so you can take it easy and catch some rays. Quite often the late-night attendees will have a barbie.

It's a fun place, with only one real rule; Be nice to each other; we are ALL chums here. New Froggers are ALWAYS welcome.

The real debate happens on the other threads. The beach is a place for banter, whimsy, relaxation and friendship, where jarring comments are not particularly welcome. There are certain very mild protocols, which you tend to pick up as you go along. So slip your shoes off, feel the sand between your toes, relax and enjoy yourself.

Robinson Steelcat wandered up the Beach. "No-one about," he though to himself. "Here I am, shipwrecked after taking a day off work to mow the lawn and dig the garden. Just me, a lawnmower and miles of empty sand.
    "Man. what a Friday!"

Suddenly, a camel appeared out of nowhere.
"Aha! A 'ship of the dessert'!" cried Steelcat.

So he had a bowl of custard, and sailed the camel home.

    The End.

Have just had a conversatin with Fifi!

She still has to confirm details with the band though!

We do alas have advance bookings until the weekend of 19th / 20th October for the Froggers get together in Bournemouth.

But at the moment 19th and 20th/ 21st are totally clear.

Remember (this means) the last week in September is not possible for us anymore! -- just too many advance bookings - to do this we need an empty house.

So we are looking positevely towards 19th and the 20th of October.

Fifi and I are seeking some way of getting sponsorship for the band - a way of covering our expenses and Fifi and the band - and to make it as cheap as possible for you.

I have explained to Fifi that after a long chat with Simon (SO) we can't afford to put you all up for free. We simply can't pay the mortgage that way :-(

Linen costs - rates - water - etc... so we will endevour to work out the best compromise we can! Getting sponsorship for Fifi will be a big plus!

The cheapest minimum we could realistically aford would be £25 per night - ideally for a minimum of two nights. That would equate to less than we acieved this time last year - still not covering Fifi and the band:-(

We have 5 doubles / four twins / two singles - and depending on the interest a surcharge of single occupancy of a double room may be inevitable. However this will not be profit making so we will wait and see how the sponsorship progresses.

All hanging really on the band and Fifi to see if they can make it.

    Night for now X

Huge event with 600 of us. How is it that some people looked as if they knew the other 599, whereas we knew about 10? Still, a good night was had by all, the celeidh band did a great job and the Orcadian Strip the Willow was a huge success as always. But the disco did the Leavers' proud, Best Years of our Lives and other emotionally charged offerings. I'd have enjoyed a good bop, but Mr Val P had put his back out again earlier in the day while TD and I were at the hairdresser - so he did well to make it to the event at all. Now, going back a few years, in a class I used to teach there was a girl who was always a right pain and who had a serious attitude problem towards me as her teacher (well, not just me, it was teachers in general). One year, on June 11th, I had the pleasure of teaching her and she announced to the assembled class that it was her birthday. Taken unawares, I rejoined that it was also mine. From that day onwards I became, in her eyes, a special pal. Sadly, I still found her to be a right pain, and felt somewhat betrayed to think she shared my birthday. I've seen her quite recently, and she still mentions our shared day ......

Apparently they were orange, all in a line, and travelling silently in a northwesterly direction.

He was out in the garden wearing only a kikoi (?sp - type of kenyan sarong) with a pair of binoculars, so the mind boggles at what any watching alien learned from observing him as a typical human.

Turns out someone down the road was having a party and released a load of 'wish balloons' or something - sort of mini hot air balloons of paper mache with a small pot of burning oil beneath - into the night sky, as an alternative to fireworks. Luckily none of them landed on any thatched roofs!

Gillian's ecard to me was locked shut, my email went down, and I'm in a general state of apprehension about something big that may kick off tomorrow on the ±«Óãtv and in which I'm involved. So - not the best of beginnings I'm afraid.

Dafydd had a round of toast as a birthday treat, so he's looking pretty pleased with himself.

However, in the last half hour, SO has suggested we have a snack lunch out, Gill's ecard has opened (thanks, Gill, it's great fun!), another friend has sent me a lovely ecard too, and the postman arrived with greetings from friends and family. The sun is still obstinately hiding and my hayfever is driving me mad, but the day is definitely improving as I type this.

Hope Molly and Jason are enjoying their days in their own ways, and hope to have a look in at some point to celebrate here later on.

To cut a long story short he has just got back and been diagnosed with dry eye - same as the dog! - I gather it's poor quality tear ducts and he will need eye drops a few times a day for the rest of his life. Well it's not life threatening but he is a bit down about the news.

Gossipmistress: - Thank you so much for pointing me to the web for veterinary drugs .

Yes it's Optimmune and I have now found it available for around £23, half the price of the vet. Rupert will also need a tube a Month for the rest of his life.

Only thing that is producing a regular amount of tears around here is the boiler.

Positive comments whether by email or blog are rarely misinterpreted, or to put it another way, antidisunderstood. I have found that nearly any negative comment is open to being read in entirely the wrong way even by someone who you think ought to be able to see the meaning. Why is intonation so difficult in text?! I think that punctuation helps, but even so, ending every phrase or sentence with a ! becomes a bit like overkill!

On the other hand, maybe it is not surprising: communication as we know it involves a huge amount of non-verbals, including pauses, rising? and falling. tones, as well as occasional eye contact, hand gestures, gallic shoulder shrugs (boof!), the rate of speech, and of course, laughter.

Humour is the zest of life; added to music, you have the whole lemon squeezy.

I think I've said my piece now, and will go and have a lie down...and put the cork back in the rioja, which was open, so I just had to have a glass, which was simply asking for a refill.

and now i am rivalling Simon, in the lenght of this post, even if it trails somewhat in the import.

I blame the pronuciation, boof !!!

Well one week after I finished work and I literally have not stopped. Being in the office seems a doddle compared with this - but is of course because while I was in the office day in day out nothing got done at home. So this week has been non-stop cleaning, ironing, shopping, tidying etc etc. I have even cooked 4 meals in one week!!! That's as much as I did in a whole year before. Plus of course I am in the process of getting my home phone line switched back so I can get (at long last!) broadband - am on painfully slow dial up so frogging hasn't really been an option even if I had the time. And of course it will probably go horribly wrong as these things tend to and I will likely be without internet for a while, we shall see...........

Anyway hope you are all well? I have a bit of surreal weekend ahead of me - am taking the children to see The Wiggles this afternoon (don't ask!!) and then SO and I are off to see Muse at the new Wembley stadium tomorrow - talk about the sublime to the ridiculous....

The whole performance was slick and thoroughly enjoyable, appreciated by a full matinee audience in Edinburgh's Playhouse Theatre. Fifi, take note!

So what's going on here tonight? Owt or nowt? I'll just hop up into the comfy hammock and snooze for a bit. Busy day tomorrow in June.

Nice to have you back RJD - and glad you arrived safely FFred.

Andy and I did the recording - however the Financial advisors did not open up the the premises as promised so we had to to view a different display of Andy's artwork at a nearby gallery. All finished off with a nice drink in the garden of a lovely pub in the heart of Wimborne.

I should have it up by Monday .. Great news that Andy has hinted that he may be donating some artwork to enhance Eddie and the teams somewhat stark Glass box - Lovely gesture Andy :-)

Pound a pint in Wimborne - incredible value!

    Hello Everyone,

Gosh I've missed a lot haven't I? I've just had a really speedy skim through the last 150 posts. I did notice Witchi's (157) question -- to which the answer is "Um, not really, to be honest, but thanks for asking". I've had no time to settle to anything -- I had to catch up on some work at the beginning of the week, having been off all the previous week to pack up the house, then I was at a farewell party for a certain chap with a very nice bottom on Thursday night (regular froggers will know of whom I speak). I spent Friday and Saturday moving from UK airport to UK airport with no logical sequence (very frustrating but worth it in the end), and so here I am at Sunday evening and I haven't caught up with myself yet!

I've brought canapes made by the same people who made Thursday's, because they were fabulous. Help yoursleves -- the little salmon parcels are especially good.

Pass me a nice long dry white with ice and soda someone? Anyone care to give me a brief rundown of the past week on the blog? There's no way I can catch up now -- I'll just have to start afresh from here.

    Chin chin.

Nice rough outside air dried towel for RJD, and Lady may have inadvertently nudged the dear boy, but certainly would NEVER do anything intentional to harm sausages. I know for a fact she upholds the tenets of the RSPS in the House with fanatic tenacity. Which is what you need to eat the sausages there.
Am blogging whilst listening to TMS and watching Grand Prix, who says women can't muti task, the fact I've just poured the coffee pot into my half full water glass is a mere taradiddle.

Hi Appy, and anyone else lurking, I've brought along some banana Scotch pancakes - best with lashings of real butter and home-made plum jam! Get them while they're still warm.

It's gone gloomy again in June, but I did get some plants in, and baited a whole lot of slug traps - absolute plague decimating things this year.

Does anyone know if I need to use best Guinness, which is what came to hand, as other beers clearly are available? Just how discriminating is a slug's palate/sense of smell?

Busy going through paperwork, toys, clothes and more in order to get rid of as much as possible before we move, so must dash back to June, but as our estate agents delivered a lovely hamper for the occasion of our exchanging contracts, here is some authentic Turkish delight, ciabatta with duck & orange terrine and a bottle of crisp white wine.

Just been watching the latest episode of Dr Who, couldn't see it last night as youngest son was gigging - utterly brilliant (son also but I would say that). The scripts are so tightly written and the stories so completely integrated with what went before, and to bring so many of my favourite actors together in one episode, Derek Jacobi, David Tennant and now John Sim - my cup runneth over...

Greetings to all the returning absentees. I'm afraid this is a bit like the Archers - you can go away for quite some time and come back to find nothing's really changed.

Appy, I'm surprised you could see the anatomical feature you mentioned, what with its owner being so far up it, but there we'll have to admit different tastes. I'm more a fan of the Big Fish, who seems invisible to your man.

Sitting here watching midges float about between my eyes with a large Glenmorangie in hand. Apparently only the pregnant females bite, and they don't seem to like getting too far above ground level, so it's just us menfolk.
