Oscar fever

Eddie Mair | 13:59 UK time, Tuesday, 23 January 2007

has swept the PM office.

Moments after he learned of his nomination as Best Director (for The Queen), I grabbed a word with Stephen Frears. I wouldn't normally name drop like this (unlike my very very very good friend Nelson Mandela) but Mr Frears, as he was told it was an interview for PM said "Oh - I listen to that".

So we are now officially backing him and all the other nominees from the film for the Oscars.

Does anyone know how we can influence the judges (short of bribery, obviously)?

Well if he's a regular listener he may also be a frogger. I wonder what his nom-de-frog might be?

Eddie are your hosting the Oscars this year?

    I can picture it now...

Ladies and Gentlemen... We do have some sad news to report. Bjork could not be here. She was trying on her Oscars dress and Dick Cheney shot her!

So Eddie are you attending? Would love to see you on the red carpet asking Cameron Diaz who she's wearing!!!

In a not so nice moment, I anticipate the luscious competition there will be between the 3 British nominees for Best Actress. Whilst their rhetoric will be all about how brilliant it is for 3 British actresses to be nominated, I think some seeting will be not so far from the surface & I can't wait for the rictus grins of those whose name is not announced, especially if it is another of their compatriots.

Did you make it into the office this morning? Is the White City living up to its name today?

Here in Sussex the world is awash with the white stuff, and I'm a very happy bunny (see previous postings and you'll know I have a love affair with snow, and, due to climate change, have been suffering withdrawal symptoms for several years here in the balmy South).

Snow showers are still falling intermittently, and the weather forecast promised more snow tomorrow.

    Lovely!

    Big Sister @ 18

I can confirm that it has indeed been snowing at White City. Sadly, the sheer number of ±«Óãtv staff tramping to work (and believe me, the state of some of them means "tramp" is indeed the right word) means that what snow there is, has rapidly turned to sludge and slush.

Still, it was nice at 0720 when I got in.

There was even a covering where I live, but sadly any photo I could have taken would have looked frankly rubbish compared to the scene outside Lissa's front door.

Oh Frog Prince, you spake/spoke! The lilypads are indeed cold today.

Nice to hear from you, Marc, and with confirmation of the state of the broadcasting nation. Tramps, eh? Did you notice any bottles of meths in their coat pockets, I wonder?

I response to Eddie's next posting, I'll be sending email haste a picture of life in Sussex under the snow. A lot like Derbyshire under the snow, incidentally.

Glad to know there are caring folk up there to break the ice for life in the pond (Note: I have resisted the urge to talk about pondlife, but you know what I mean ...) :o)

Fellow froggers may like to know that "Biddy Baxter" can easily be sung to the tune of "Chitty Bang Bang" (in a soprano voice if you like, Big Sis). I mention this only because I was reminded of it when I read her name. Many things can be sung to this tune -- indeed, I often find it helpful when needing to remember items between leaving the bathroom and adding them to my shopping list (in the kitchen)... For example, picture, if you will, Aperitif on her regular trip down the stairs cheerfully singing "Mini tampon, mini-mini tampon, mini tampon, mini-mini tampon, oh you mini-mini tampon, mini-mini tampon we love you..."

(Oops, have I disturbed the boys in here now?)

I'm sorry, I had a stressful morning and am ridiculously cheerful now it's over. This is an explanation rather than an excuse...
