Prospects for Wednesday, 19 March

Dan Kelly is today's programme producer - here's his early email.

Good morning all.

On the eve of the fifth anniversary of the Iraq War, we plan to discuss the legacy of the conflict and the future prospects for Iraq.

Mark Urban has been working on an audit of the last five years and an assessment of the current situation in the country. During the live discussions we will look at the consequences of the conflict for Britain, trust in public life and US foreign policy.

We have a live interview with Tony Blair's former Chief of Staff Jonathan Powell. We plan a wider discussion as well. Which guests would you like on and what questions would you like asked?

We also have the final drama, starring Kenneth Branagh as Colonel Tim Collins.

Iraq will dominate the programme, but what other suggestions have you got? We should clearly keep an eye on the National Security plan to be announced in the Commons, and the McCann story.

See you in the meeting

Dan

As part of the Iraq discussion, would it be possible to explain the implications on the reconstruction and future of Iraq of a $100+ oil price ??

I am by no means clear who, if anyone, in Iraq is benefiting from that, as the limiting factor in reconstruction appears to be a lack of people and lack of security, rather than lack of money.

GUEST: Iain Duncan Smith

QUESTION: You chose to give Blair his war. Please clarify your attitude AT THE TIME to: (1) Labour MPs' dissent, (2) the number of dissenters in Tory ranks (3) the level of dissent in the general public.

I know it's not on the schedule, but would it be possible to have a slot on the Gurkas protesting in Westminster today for equal rights on pensions and the right to stay in the UK, after having fought for the UK in both Afghanistan and Iraq?

I agree about the Gurkhas - perhaps ask Gordon Corrigan on to the programme.

Hi Newsnight

could you invite Bruce Kent?
has 3 hats on this?.....

question for Jonathan Powell,

I'm very happy to see people change tact, perhaps you could ask him how easy is it for civil servants, politicians to make alternative views known, what is the lowest grade civil servant who can make an impact on the Prime Minister and or Government,

also the same question I asked live to Peter Hain in the Jonathan Dimbleby show, do people in Government and also soldiers have the right and indeed duty to disobey orders they believe to be wrong or immoral,

maybe you could even find Peter Hains "reply" on this !!, that said I think he was outstanding as Northern Ireland secretary so not all criticism, just his and others view in favour of invading Iraq war

best wishes
Bob

I agree with Mistress76uk - even if you can't fit it in tonight, the way the Gurkhas are treated always brings shame onto our country, and they really really deserve far better treatment, especially now with the 'Royal Approval' of Prince Harry.

It says just above where I am writing this that you are working hard to fix the problems with the ±«Óãtv blogs, but it has been months. If this inept company that you use to host them can't manage with the volume then find someone who can. The ±«Óãtv are one of the biggest most influential broadcasters in the world, and they really ought to get into the 21st century properly- it's been ages since Peter Barron wrote that piece on here expressing his frustration and it's still not fixed, as is evident by 1 persons post appearing about 3000 times above!

And another thing- why does the ±«Óãtv now have two economics editors. Evan David was on ±«Óãtv news 24 today as 'economics editor' and Stephanie Flanders keeps appearing in NY as 'economics editor' and she therefore can't report for newsnight- seems a tad illogical. And also, who is going to replace Ms Flanders on NN? I have noticed recently how NN has had to use more and more ±«Óãtv correspondents in reports, presumably because of underfunding which is totally ridiculous.

Ahh, Jonathan Powell has been making the headlines a bit recently- talk to Al Qaeda? You should explore this comment if you have time.

What exactly has Gordon Brown announced today? Just seems to be a regurgitation of old policies, and a statement of common sense views.

Hi
Just a short question for Mr. Jonathan Powell: What is the reason for lying about war casualties in Bosnia? 1 MILLION STATED IS CCA TENFOLD THAN ACTUAL VICTIMS ACCORDING TO BOSNIAN STATE INSTITUTE. WHY TO LIE ABOUT IT???
THANKS
