Today's programme producer is Liz Gibbons - here is her early email to the production team.

Hello all

Masses around - what should we concentrate on?

Northern Rock bankNorthern Rock
How did we get here? Why did it take as long as it did to get here? And what might the political/economic consequences be? David Grossman is working on a piece. There's a Gordon Brown press conference at 11, a press conference with new Northern Rock boss Ron Sadler expected this afternoon and a Commons statement due. What are the key issues we want to address and who we want to hear from live?

Pakistan - Mark Urban is there for us working on a film assessing the impact of the elections. We should have a good sense of early results by the time we're on air.

Kosovo - officially recognised by EU and US today. Key interviews? (Watch Allan Little’s Kosovo essay from last week)

Al Fayed giving evidence at Diana inquest - Steve Smith is in court. Is there a discussion to be done?

Liz

NETWORKING

I keep seeing an advert for some "Asian Network" on ±«Óãtv TV. Is there a HETEROSEXUAL WHITE CYNIC NETWORK at all?

Can we please, please, please not waste yet more time/money on Al Fayed?!

The 'EU' did not recognise Kosovo today, only some of the states did. A somewhat detailed review of the EU's split on Kosovo's status would be welcome. The legal implications are quite interesting and some of the newer states in the EU have taken up, let's say, surprising positions on this issue given their own history over the last two decades or so...

Rob - Jeremy is presenting tonight.

In terms of the Northern Rock story, a clear breakdown of how state control will lead to future bidders providing a 'better deal for the tax payer' would be useful. To what extent has the Chancellor taken a shot in the dark? Please also ensure that all featured critics of the government's role in all of this are made to spell out how and why things would have been different under their control.

If there is anything on the Diana inquest, I may have a mental breakdown and end up crying on the floor. Please don't make that happen to me!

No doubt Vince Cable will be on! They may as well just make him chancellor, he's they only one who has come out of this looking intelligent and credible. Darling seems have fallen asleep when the Rock first went down, and suddenly re-awakened now, but Vince Cable has understood the issues and developed a clear strategy from the off.

And finally I have to mention Stephanie Flanders! I only found out yesterday she is leaving NN to be the economic editor! Damn! No more annoying Jeremy with her graphs and successfully explaining everything going on in the complex world of economics! A loss, for sure; but well done to her anyway!

"COMPETENCE"

Cloe - currently No 4 - makes an interesting point. The EU is all about "conferring competences" (EU-speak for giving up powers). When I (and others) am lobbying Parliament later this month, over the referendum, I wonder if we will be CLEAR who can "take a stance" on Kosovo: nation-state or EU-as-a whole?

Barrie - now at No.8. The answer to that is clear. The UK, France and Germany have recognised Kosovo notwithstanding the objections of Spain, Cyprus, Bulgaria and others. It is clearly a nation state issue. It does, however, rather make a nonsense of any EU ambitions to have a common foreign and defence policy.
