NARRATOR: This is grass, grass is pretty easy going. Arenât you grass? She likes sunbathing a lot, sheâs pretty clever because she makes her own food, just from sunshine!
Thatâs called being a âproducerâ, so she doesnât need to eat anything. Although sometimes she gets eaten.

NARRATOR: This is hare, hare is not a producer, he cant make his own food, so he eats the grass. We call him a âconsumerâ. Heâs pretty crazy about grass he easts it all day long, not a bad life really. But hares donât just eat, sometimes they get eaten.
Meet lionâŠbig tough guy, a lot of teeth, heâs a âpredatorâ. That means he hunts other animals. But actually, in a way, heâs making a living from sunshine too.
The energy grass gets from the sun is then eaten by hare, and eventually eaten by lion.
Everything on Earth is actually living on sunshine energy. Even tough guys like lionâŠ

A predator is an animal that eats other animals. The animals that predators eat are called prey. Predators are found at the top of a food chain.
