What different coins are there?

Here is a 1p coin.

A one pence coin.

Two of these coins are worth the same as a 2p coin.

Two one pence coins, an equals sign and one two pence coin.

Here is a 5p coin.

A five pence coin.

A 5p coin is worth the same as five 1p coins.

A five pence coin, an equal sign and five one pence coins.

Two 5p coins are worth the same as a 10p coin.

Two five pence coins, an equal sign and one ten pence coin.

Two 10p coins are worth the same as a 20p coin.

Two ten pence coins, and equal sign and a twenty pence coin.

Five 10p coins are worth the same as a 50p coin.

Five ten pence coins, an equal sign and a fifty pence coin.

Two 50p coins are worth the same as a ÂŁ1 coin.

Two fifty pence coins, an equal sign and a pound coin.

Shapes of coins

Some coins are circles.

The 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and ÂŁ2 coins are circular.

Some coins have many edges.

A 20p and 50p coin have 7 edges each where as the ÂŁ1 coin has 12 edges.

Here are some amounts of money you can make with just two coins.

1p + 1p = 2p

2p + 5p = 7p

10p + 50p = 60p

30p is the odd one out as there is not a 30p coin.
