Join Wilber and Oaklie as they meet nature expert, Chantelle, to learn about the benefits of being outdoors.
(GENTLE INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC)
Wilbur: Hello! I'm Wilbur, and this is my sister, Oaklie.
Oaklie: Hello! Wilbur and I are often very busy, doing lots of things at school, and after school.
Wilbur: We have come to meet Chantelle, who is a nature expert to ask, how being outdoors might help us.
Chantelle: Hi Guys! I am so excited you asked me to come and meet you here. I love being outdoors, because it makes my mind feel clear and gives me a chance to stop being so busy. Shall we go for a walk?
Wilbur: Yeah!
Chantelle: Come on then!
Oaklie: We are going for a walk with Chantelle, 'cause we want to find out more about how being in nature could be good for us.
Chantelle: Well, if we stop here for a while, we can use all our senses to notice where we are. We can do this at home too, but it's fun to take a moment, to do it outdoors and it's relaxing. Wilbur, what can you see?
Wilbur: I can see the light dancing in the trees.
Chantelle: That's right! If you shut your eyes, what can you hear?
Oaklie: I could hear the birds tweeting.
Chantelle: I can too.
Wilbur: I can hear the wind.
Chantelle: And what can you smell?
(SNIFFS)
Oaklie: I can smell the soil and the trees.
Chantelle: Wow! You guys are amazing. Did you know this is called mindfulness. This is when you take a moment to stop and notice what's around you.
Wilbur: We're starting to relax already.
Chantelle: I have a little team mission for the three of us.
Oaklie: Together build a tree den using only what you find in the woods.
Chantelle: It's very important to build dens, as a team with a grown-up, so that everyone stays happy and healthy. Shall we begin?
Wilbur: Yeah!
(DRY LEAVES CRUNCHING)
Wilbur: This tree is perfect, it's already got sticks in it to start.
(GENTLE SERENE MUSIC)
Chantelle: Do you want another one back there Oaklie? I'm gonna pass it to you okay? Got it?
When we take time out to be in nature, it makes us feel happier. Why do you think that is?
Wilbur: I think it makes you happier, because you can see wildlife, the animals and the plants.
Oaklie: I think you could just get some time outside, and have some fun in the woods.
Chantelle: Good reasons guys. I just love breathing in the fresh air.
(INHALING)
Wilbur: I think that's good.
Chantelle: I do too.
(GENTLE SPIRITED MUSIC)
Chantelle: This is perfect guys. I don't think I've ever felt more relaxed.
Wilbur: Me too.
Oaklie: Me three. We can hand these all out.
Chantelle: Perfect.
Oaklie: And we're using the mud as paint.
Wilbur: We have loved meeting Chantelle, she has taught us so much.
Oaklie: We now know that no matter how busy we are, taking the time to have an adventure outdoors is very-
Wilbur: -very good for us!
Oaklie: Yep!
(GENTLE SERENE MUSIC)
