Why are you going there?
SNOOT: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: I see, you’re going to check out its famous moons.
Oh my!
What a beautiful planet and what a lot of lovely moons.
How many are there all together?
SNOOT: ·ˇ°ů…Wi… Oo…
NARRATOR: Let’s see.
There are 3 big shimmery moons, 5 medium glimmery moons and 7 little glittery moons.
FIN: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: Great idea, Fin.
Instead of working out 3 add 5 add 7, you can start by doing 7 add 3, which equals 10.
Then just add the 5 left over.
10 add 5 makes 15 moons all together.
BOTH: Aha!
NARRATOR: Back on earth, that’s what we call making number bonds to 10.
Instead of adding up numbers in the order they come in, it’s sometimes easier to add numbers to make 10 first, and then add on what’s left over.
SNOOT: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: What’s that Snoot?
Even more little moons?!
SNOOT: (ALIEN LANGUAGE)
NARRATOR: What do you mean they're getting bigger?

I don’t think those are moons…
They’re meteors!
And they’re coming right for us!

How can you make adding lots of numbers easier?
If you have to add three or more numbers it can help to use number bonds.
Number bonds are pairs of numbers that you already know make another number.
You probably already know some number bonds to 10, like these.
- 1 + 9 = 10
- 2 + 8 = 10
- 3 + 7 = 10
- 4 + 6 = 10
- 5 + 5 = 10
If you can spot these in a sum, try adding these first before adding the other numbers.
