“Reader, I married him.”

It’s one of the most famous lines in English literature, but do you know who wrote it? The answer — Charlotte BrontĂ«.

Writing under the pseudonym Currer Bell in the 19th Century, Charlotte’s writing proved to be incredibly influential, as was that of her sisters, Emily and Anne (Ellis and Acton Bell).

One person who was certainly influenced by their work was the singer-songwriter Kate Bush, who famously took inspiration from Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights. Like the BrontĂ« sisters’ writing, her lyrics are bursting with emotion.
